After I updated to iOS 11, most of mySafari bookmarks are gone. How can I fix it?

After updating to iOS 11 most of my Safari bookmarks are deleted. How do I get them back. I have tried the suggestion on the pages telling me to delete my Safari icon and then put it back on but I can’t delete it I don’t know what to do because it won’t delete
