I bought an iPhone X case through Apple, but also use a pop socket to get a better grip on the phone. Will I be able to charge wirelessly with the pop socket on the case or does the phone need to lay completely flat in order to charge?

The back of the phone needs to make contact with the charger. I'm fairly certain that something like what you're describing would prevent charging. However, as you have the phone and the pop socket, you should be able to do the experiment if you have/can get access to a wireless charger. I imagine they have them on display at Apple Stores.
