I have an X and have a group chat with all iPhone users and the group name option isn’t there.
Wrong answer. Up to iOS 10 it doesn’t matter what OS they are using. No combination of Apple and non-Apple will allow you to create a Group name on iOS 11. The details page for that list of IDs simply does not have the options of naming the group, deleting a member or adding a member.
Maybe Apple will fix this in one of there famous patches ?!?!? Probably not, I have a feeling it’s gone for good !!!!!

I never said that you could name a group message that had a combination of iOS and non-iOS devices. As a matter of fact, I said that you could not. If you have a group message with just iOS devices, you still have the ability to name a group message and also the ability to adding or removing a member. You can also remove yourself, if the message contains 3 or more members. I just tested it again on my iPhone X with iOS 11.2.2.
I don’t believe the new iOS system has the feature to name group messages.
That is not correct. The ability to name a group iMessage still exists. As mentioned earlier, it has to be a group iMessage, which is one that does not include any non-iOS devices. A combination message like that cannot be named.
Is there a way to avoid sharing group names? My friend named our group conversation something that he loves but I hate. When I edit the name, it automatically changes in his phone & vice versa. What is the workaround for this?
This feature is only available in a group message where all of the users are iOS users. You cannot name a group message if any of the users are non-iOS users, such as Android users.
Tapping “i” of a group conversation seeing no Group Name spit on top of Detail page.
It’s so weird that my friend was able to name our group chat and it has Apple and android users! She has an iPhone. How can that happen???
All users are iPhone and it does not give me the group optio
I don’t believe the new iOS system has the feature to name group messages. It’s not showing on my new phone as it did on my older device.
