Why is my spell checking allowing mistakes?

Like these:

1) DO YOU SPOEND TOO MUCH?

2) ti instead of to

3) don;t instead of don’t


I had this with Mountain Lion and now with El Capitan.

Hello tony gardino,

After reviewing your post, it sounds like autocorrection may not be correcting spelling or grammar mistakes. It could be that the setting for this is disabled. I would recommend you read this article and use it to help troubleshoot the issue.


Turn off autocorrection

  • For a specific app: In the app, choose Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Correct Spelling Automatically (it’s off when a checkmark isn’t shown).

  • For all apps: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Keyboard, click Text, then deselect the “Correct spelling automatically” checkbox.
