how to connect late 2014 iMac to 2011 27" cinema display

Looking for help in connecting a 27" late 2014 iMac to 2011 27" cinema display.

iMac with Retina 5K display, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

It should just plug in. The 2014 iMac has Thunderbolt, and the 2011 27" display uses Thunderbolt. If you have the older Mini DisplayPort display, it also can plug into a Thunderbolt port. You shouldn't need any adapters.

Hi,

You need to get Thunderbolt2 to mini display port adapter which might be not available.

I did finally figure this out but not after I spent well over two hours talking with people at Apple and OWC from whom I purchased the iMac.

Just plug it in!
