When an iPhone is lost, stolen, or broken, how does one get its second authentication factor for its Apple ID account?

When an iPhone is lost, stolen, or broken, how does one gets its second authentication factor from/without it when wanting to use iCloud.com and other places that require the Apple ID login? Is that Apple ID account gone forever since there is no way to recover it? :( Thank you in advance. :)

With two-factor authentication you can and should set up multiple trusted devices (if you have them) and multiple trusted phone numbers. The phone numbers can be for any devices including non-Apple cell phones and even land lines.

There is also an account recovery process if needed. More information: Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

Thanks. I remember iCloud.com web site asking in Firefox v56 web browser to trust it after logging in last night. I assume that is trusted.
