Shut down or restart my iMac?

Should I shut down my iMac on a regular basis? Or should I just restart it? I normally leave it on all the time because it takes so long to reboot.

Thanks for any input.

Wow! Really good information. I wonder why the Apple genius didn’t mention this when I bought the new hard drive? Rhetorical, of course. I will look into the costs and decide on updating vs replacing with a new Mac. There are other issues after the hard drive replacement so I’m guessing that I will soon have a new Mac! Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it.
