how to import just audio from cam.

(The formerly given answers (2014) are not what i hoped (and very complicated to and shift-3: I do not understand how to)

I want to import only the sound of the cam.micr. (for a voice over) without the video itself saving memory.

But I don't see a import button to select that option.

So is there in 2017 maybe another simple way to do this?

Thanks!

As Tom said, there is no way to import just the audio of a clip from the camera, but if you want to save space, import it (using, for example, Image Capture, or directly with the Finder, depending on the camera format), open in Quicktime Player, save just the audio and then throw the video clip away and import the audio file to FCP X.

Alternatively, if you can afford a small audio recorder (which may set you back probably less than $100) you may get better sound than from the camera mic and not waste space.
