Photos lost

I discovered today that there are thousands of photos missing in my photos album! I have not physically deleted anything! I am devastated! How do I “find” them

Thank you Eau, I called the Apple store and we have been able to recover the photos (thank goodness)

With the upgrade the photos album only imported the iCloud photo. We were able to recover 9000 photos! Yeh

Where were your photos stored, were they just on the desktop or in the Pictures folder, did you access them through the Photos app.

What happened prior to you noticing these images were 'lost'?
