GREYED OUT BLANK JPEGS WON'T OPEN IN DESKTOP FOLDER

Hi there - I have a folder on my desktop holding 1000 jpeg images - all of which appear blanked out or 'grey' merely displaying the jPeg file icon.

They will not open so I can see a preview or the actual image.


Any advice on how to fix this greatly appreciated. See below for image

What happens if you use a command+J keyboard shortcut on that open Finder window, and on the View Options panel, select Show icon preview? Once you have done that, can you select one image, and press the spacebar to see if Quick Look will display the image?
