Gmail email address not recognised

I'm trying to change my email for my apple id to a gmail email address. It wont recognise my email. Is there anything I can do? The email address is typed correctly. User uploaded file

If the e-mail address has been used with/associated with an Apple ID in the last year, you can't use it. You will need another address.
