photos drag and drop

Just installed 10.13.1 os. Photos 3

Before I would drag a photo from photos to desktop. Edit that photo in Adobe Elements. Delete old photo in photos and drag new edited one back into photos.

Now when I try to drag new edited one from desktop back to photos it won't work. If I drag and drop into the folder the old deleted one shows up again. If I go through and do the last process again it will work.

Hope this is clear.

Let me suggest a different workflow so you don't have to give up your unedited original and maintain the nondestructive editing capability of Photos.

1 - in Photos select the image you want to edit.

2 - Control (right) - click on it and select "Edit With" from the contextual menu.

3 - select Adobe Photoshop Elements from the list of available image editing apps.

Note: If PSE does not show up in the list of editors you'll need to purchase the 99¢ External Editors For Photos from the App Store. This user tip shows how to use it: External Editors in Photos Are Here,

However, with Photos 3 the list of editors is access thru this button in the Editing mode:

When you finish the editing just save the changes as a jpeg and the edit will be recognized by Photos as if it had been edited by Photos. You can then revert to original if so desired.

Thanks for the help. The way you suggested is how I used to do it in iPhoto. Now photos lets you right click and pick an external editor. Elements does not show up so I use other and pick Elements. Dialog box says can't open file with this app. Tried the app you suggested and developer says he pulled it out of app store since it won't work with new os.

I went to the app store and tried another one and it won't save the edited photo so I removed it. Seem like a problem with the new photos and os.
