adding Ram to refurbished mac

Hey all,

I'm a freelance photographer starting out, so I'd like to save a bit of money on a computer and buy a refurbished Mac desktop to speed up my work over just using my Macbook. Most refurbished desktops in my price range seem to mostly only have 8gb of memory- I was wondering what my options are for upgrading that? Is that something where I can have it sent to my nearest Apple store and have them install it there and pick up from the store? If so, what's the price range for adding on another 8gb of memory?

If it's a 27-inch iMac, or a pre-2012 21-inch one, you can upgrade the RAM yourself.

If it's a newer 21-inch model, upgrading the RAM is either very difficult or impossible, even for Apple Store staff.
