How do I get the DND crescent moon to show up next to my name on my friend's iphone, on the Messages list?

How do I get the DND crescent moon to show up next to my name on my friend's iPhone, on the Messages list?

My friend sees the crescent moon next to someone else's name, but not beside mine - and my DND is on, with "no one" allowed to get through.

Thanks.

It's not up to you.

The Crescent moon appears when the user has chosen to hide or silence alerts from that conversation or contact.

If one if his contacts has the moon icon, the he must have set it to hide alerts. It has nothing to do with the contact's status at all.

You can swipe the conversation to the left, and tap on the "Hide Alerts" box on his iPhone to get the moon to show up.

Turning Do Not Disturb on or off on your phone will have no effect on your friend's phone -- it only controls notifications and alerts on your own phone.

The moon symbol on your friends phone next to a message is controlled on the friend's phone by clicking the "i" in a circle beside that message thread and then turning off Hide Alerts. It can be turned on in your friends phone for your messages by the friend sliding to the left on the conversation in the message list; that will show 2 options -- Delete and Hide Alerts.
