Is it possible to use the data for a scientific study?

After reading the book Dataclysm written by OkCupids VD how they have used the data for demographic studies I wonder if it's possible to use some of the data from the health app to study the correlation between moving and the range of nearby parks? How is Apples policy about science for the utilitarian character? One of the professors on the university did a similar study, and some of his work is behind how Google built it's parks at their headquarter, so there is much good things coming out of this science.
