Automatically Hide and Show the Menu Bar

I've been having problems with my automatically hidden menu bar on my MacBook 12-inch on High Sierra.

Current version of 10.13.1 - High Sierra.

Since the MacBook is already limited to the 12" screen, I like to automatically hide and show my menu bar and my dock on my laptop so as to maximize the screen space when I'm using apps. However, on the latest updates of High Sierra, (I believe it only started since I downloaded High Sierra), on occasion, if I am using an app, and the app is stretched to the top of the screen, as I would, and if I move my cursor to the top of the screen to access the menu bar, as I would, the menu bar does not reveal, or drop-down so to speak. Instead I'm only offered the cursor ability to shrink the app's window, as if my cursor was hovering at the edge of an app window. This is not the case normally, obviously. When that happens, I then cannot access the menu bar on that application until I full-screen and un-full-screen the app or do some other sort of tinkering, which usually works without too much difficulty. However, as I've had High Sierra longer, more of my apps are experiencing the problem. It has become increasingly annoying, and when I want to access the menu bar for app preferences, or file, etc., I have to do this little dance with my computer to get the menu bar to reappear for that app. Again, I like the ability to maximize my screen space on my MacBook, and I appreciate the hidden menu bar function, so I'd rather not just turn off the hidden menu bar setting. But this problem is quite a nuisance. (The problem began only with Safari, now Mail and Microsoft Word have the problem, intermittently.)

Has this problem occurred to anyone else? Are there any problems on my end? Is this something that would be fixed with a system update to clear a bug?
