Question: wireless keyboard volume functions don't work

I purchased a wireless keyboard with the numeric keypad. The volume functions on the keyboard do not work. When I hit the volume down button it hides any screens I have open. My old wireless keyboard volume functions worked.

When I go into system preferences I do not have this option

Select "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys"

My old keyboard did not require me to set this up. Do I have a defective keyboard that Apple needs to replace?

What system are you running? I have that checkbox on my iMac running Sierra with a wireless keyboard and on my other iMac with a wired keyboard running High Sierra.

Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try from there. Any change? Then reboot normally and try again.
