how to connect apple tv3, tv and sound bar

I did not buy a sound bar yet but I am going to. As I work with apple tv 3rd generation (bought in August 2015!) it connects perfectly with my smart tv (HDMI). What do I need to make it all work together? Do I need optical cables between soundbar and apple tv? Or do I connect soundbar with tv (optical in and out)?
