Everything needed to keep your Mac in perfect operating condition came in the box it shipped in, except ONE. That one is a Drive on which to place your Time Machine Backup files. Time Machine is a part of MacOS, not an add-on, and all you need to do once you get that drive is turn on Time Machine and to will quietly make a backup, at low priority in the background, while you continue to work.

Apple wants you to be a happy customer MUCH more that they want a few bucks more from extra-cost add-on software. If something more were needed, it would have been included.

No third-party add-ons are needed or desirable. But there certainly are a lot of developers eager to make money from your uncertainty.
