Books onto Ipad

I have an old ipad which can only go to OS9.3.5, I have v12.7.1.4 of itunes.

How can I transfer my e-books onto the ipad. itunes doesn't seem to have a books option anymore, and I cannot see a way of doing it from the ipad i
