Macbook Pro Deletion For selling

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro, which has MacOS Sierra installed, I did what I normally do when going to sell and only laptop, backed up all my information on my external hard drive, and hit command R when rebooting, now when I start up it states- "macOS could not be installed on your computer. The path /System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged. Quit the installed to restart your computer and try again."

Which I have done several times. What do I do!? Help!? Thanks!
