I am receiving SMs messages twice. Does anyone know why?

I recently upgraded to the iPhone 10. On the first day of use I had no problems. I woke up this morning and now any time I receive an SMS message, I receive a duplicate of the message from the same person a few seconds afterwards.

Here are the steps I've taken to resolve this:

went to: settings>messages> and changed the send & receive to only my phone number. It was et to my phone number and an email address.

went to:settings>messages and tuned iMessages off and back on. (Did this several times)

went to:notifications>messages and made sure repeat alerts was not on.

Upgraded iOS to 11.1.1

I have restarted the phone several times and the problem persists.Very strange because it worked just fine yesterday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
