Predictive contact in messaging.

When I start to type a contact recipient in messaging the list of contacts starts with the farthest from the correct contact. I have typed a complete first and last name and it will still be at the very bottom of the list of possible matches. Is there any way to fix this? It seems like it started about the time of iOS 11.
