Why does my phone send me back to the home screen when I click the reading list icon?

So for the past few weeks whenever I tried to open my reading list my iphone 7 would just send me back to the home screen. At first it got me a little angry but I thought after I did a software update to 11.1.2 that it would go away. Well it turns out that didn’t help either. It still sends me back to the home screen whenever I click the reading list icon. I’m not sure if it’s just my phone or if other people are experiencing this too.
