Do Apple developers know about these 10 bugs for apple watch series 3?

1. If you turn off WiFi and cellular on the watch, and turn off WiFi and Bluetooth on your phone, they magically remain connected and you can still ping your phone from your watch. How is this even possible?

2. Notifications are set up properly in the AW app, yet do not appear with any discernible logic. In addition, after setting the watch on do not disturb for several hours (while I slept) , after taking it out of that state, 0 notifications appeared. When I went to check my phone, I had at least 10 from mail and messages. (I have app watch settings set to custom: show alerts.)

3. The watch sends heartbeat data while it’s sitting on a table across the room. It registered 6 elevated heart rate notifications in a 2 hour span when no one was wearing it. It also sent resting heart rate data as well. Apparently my end table has a resting heart rate of 50.

4. The WiFi is janky. My iPhone 8 was connected to the 5ghz connection when I first paired my phone. It wasn’t showing up on my wireless gateways connected devices. So, I connected my phone to the 2.4 network and it showed up. I reconnected my phone to 5, and disabled auto connect but I still kept the network “remembered”. When I turn WiFi off on my phone, I expect the watch should show the WiFi connection. It doesn’t. It still just shows I’m connected to my phone. (See issue 1 about this magical sticky connection using technology unknown (to me, at least.)

5. Uber: I clicked the app on the watch, it instructed me to click the app on my phone. I did, and it worked. However, if I close the app on my phone and try to restart the app on my watch, I get the same set up instructions. I got the watch with cellular so I wouldn’t always need my phone.

6. Lyft: Works worse than uber. It either just presents the logo for 10 minutes and hangs, or, the app loads and says it’s unavailable in my area. On my phone it works fine.

7. Facebook messenger hangs with the spinning wheel. Sometimes if I open it with my phone at the same time, my most recent 5-6conversations will show up. Makes the app sorta pointless.

8. The watch randomly locks. Even if I’m wearing it

and my phone is unlocked.

9. There were more, but I need to wrap this up for now.

Hi

I'm afraid that no-one here can tell you what Apple is or is not aware of. You are not talking to Apple here - this is a user-based technical support community.

1. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi

That is expected behaviour, not a bug. Turning off Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi via Control Centre on your iPhone does not fully turn off those features. Apple Watch remains connected via Bluetooth with your iPhone.

To fully disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, either turn off each of those features off via Settings (Settings > Bluetooth, Settings > Wi-Fi) or enable Airplane Mode on your iPhone.

2. Notifications

How notifications behave depends on the status of your devices and your settings. With Wrist Detection enabled, in order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible:

  • If your iPhone is unlocked, then you will receive notification alerts on your iPhone instead of on your Apple Watch.
  • If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your Apple Watch is unlocked (regardless of whether the watch display is asleep or awake) and on your wrist, you will receive notification alerts on your watch.
  • If your Apple Watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, then notifications will go to your iPhone.
  • More information: Notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

4. Wi-Fi

Whenever your Apple Watch cannot connect to the paired iPhone via Bluetooth, it will attempt, as a fallback, to connect to a compatible Wi-Fi network.

A compatible Wi-Fi network is an 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network that your iPhone has connected to before whilst your Apple Watch was connected to the iPhone via Bluetooth. Apple Watch cannot connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi networks or to public networks that require logins, subscriptions or profiles.

To check whether your Apple Watch can connect to Wi-Fi:

If your Apple Watch does not connect to Wi-Fi as expected (after allowing a few moments), then follow these steps:

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Firstly, ensure that your Apple Watch and iPhone are connected via Bluetooth and also that your iPhone is connected to your Wi-Fi network:

On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Wi-Fi:

  • Tap on the "i" / info icon to the right of your Wi-Fi network name > tap on Forget This Network.
  • With your Apple Watch still connected via Bluetooth, reconnect your iPhone to your Wi-Fi network, being sure to check that you are connecting to an 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz network.
  • Pause for a few moments to allow the Wi-Fi information to be shared to your Apple Watch.

On your iPhone, enable Airplane Mode:

Check whether your Apple Watch has successfully connected to the Wi-Fi network by checking for the Wi-Fi icon at the upper-left of Control Centre (allow a short while for it to connect after losing the connection with your iPhone):

When finished, turn off Airplane Mode on your iPhone.

If you have not yet done so and if the feature is supported on your plan, you may also wish to enable Wi-Fi Calling on your devices:

If the issue persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

4, 5 & 6 Third-party apps

If you have not yet done so, it may help to update both your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

And also to install any available updates for the apps (via the App Store > Updates) on your iPhone.

For assistance with any remaining issues concerning the use of third-party apps on Apple Watch, I suggest that you consult the respective developers' support resources and/or contact the developers.

3. Heart rate

Whilst I can't say why that has been happening, the following steps may help to stop if from happening again (check performance after each before moving on to the next):

If you have not yet done so, update both your iPhone and Apple Watch (see above for support links).

Close certain apps and restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch:

If you have ever (not necessarily recently) previously used the Workout app and/or any third-party fitness, heart rate tracking or sleep tracking apps on your Apple Watch, then check on your watch to see whether there is an active or paused activity within any of them:

  • If there is, then end that activity from within that app on your watch (not your iPhone).
  • If in doubt, remove any such third-party apps from your Apple Watch.

Unpair and re-pair your watch:

If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

8. Unexpected locking

Check that you are wearing your Apple Watch sufficiently snugly on the top of your wrist (if it is worn too loosely, your watch may believe that it has been removed from your wrist).

Wrist Detection can be affected by temporary or permanent skin changes, such as by some wrist tattoos:

Thanks for taking the time to make all of those suggestions, however, as my post stated, I have an iPhone 8 and AWS3 gps+cellular. And both have the most up to date os.

I should have also mentioned that I read the Watch os 4.1 user guide and iOS 11.1 user guide. Well, most of it anyways. Over 1,000 pages between the two.

I’ve also unpaired / repaired, reset, uninstalled/ reinstalled/ checked the settings etc seven ways to Sunday. I’ve put in no less than 15 hours researching this thing to figure out why it doesn’t work as it’s supposed to.

That said, I’ve already done all of the things anyone can think of to fix them.

And the Bluetooth (sticky magic connection) is an iOS bug then, not a watch bug.

First of all, everything in control center turns things on or off. A binary choice. Bluetooth bizarrely can be turned on, but toggling it off doesn’t actually turn it off.

Further, the splash page of the settings menu in iOS also shows “Bluetooth——> NOT CONNECTED” - it isn’t until you actually click on the NOT connected do you see that Bluetooth is still toggled on and the watch is still connected.

I’m sure you can see that people would think they turned Bluetooth off because they literally turned it off and in settings it says not connected.

Also, I hear you about the third party apps. But if like just one of them wasn’t working but the rest were, I might be inclined to think it’s the app’s fault, not a problem with Apple. But when 3rd party apps are 0 for everything, then there’s nothing there to make me think Apple got it right, and everyone else is getting it wrong. That’s just not logical.

Further, how Apple is purposely handling notifications is perplexing.

If I am not connected to my iPhone and my watch is locked or set to dnd, why aren’t the notifications saved and revealed when taking the watch out of those states?

So if I go to the gym, set dnd, I’d expect to get all those notifications when I’m done working out. It’s literally the entire point of getting the watch with cellular- so you can leave the phone at home.

And since the wrist detection flat out doesn’t work, the locked watch will also do away with those notifications.

I don’t care what state the phone or the watch is in... off, dnd, locked, etc. The notifications should appear on whichever device is unlocked first. I’m blown away something this simple and obvious isn’t how it already works.

I was careful in my wording to say there are bugs with this device. I wasn’t coming here looking for help with settings or advice stating to unpair/pair, restart, reset, delete, reinstall, etc and every other thing I’ve been doing to try and fix consumer electronics on my own for the last 30 years.

I was trying to figure out if other people had these issues to see if getting a new one would resolve the issues, or if I should stop wasting my time and wait for the AW5 or something when they hopefully put out a product that works.

But thanks for attempting to help anyways. I really wanted this to work. The industrial design is great. So frustrating it won’t work like it should.
