A couple of the icons on my ipad have black backgrounds
1. What causes this ?
2. Why are these few the only ones affected in this way ?
3. Does anything need to be done to correct this ?
4. If so, what exactly needs to be done to correct this ?
I am using an iPad A1474, which I have used for 2 or 3 years.
Any help would be appreciated.

iPad Air Wi-Fi, iOS 11.1
1. They are all desktop icons, rather than apps. Just for the record.
2. I can open them all and use them all.
3. They are FWIW not listed in Settings, presumably because they are mere icons - there is just the usual string of apps, which are listed in Settings in blocks under my name, below blocks containing other info.
The encircled Google icon goes to white when clicked and opened, then turns black when closed.

For Firefox that is how the developer now has its icon, that is how it now shows on the app's description page in the App Store (and is how it looks on my iPad) :
They're not apps, I think you have done this:
Add an icon for the current page to your Home screen. To quickly access the page from your Home screen, tap "rectangle with an arrow pointing up" icon, then tap Add to Home Screen. The icon appears only on the device where you add it.
Could be, except that the quoted text does not sound at all familiar. I save stuff I´m interested in either to Favourites, or, to my Home Screen(s). And these icons are the only ones that are out of the ordinary in any way.
So, it seems like the graphical handling of saved internet links (desktop icons) by Safari and iOS has changed. But the functionality is unchanged. The black appearance may be due to some background attribute in the icon object.
How do new icons, created with iOS 11 Safari, behave?
I added an icon for the discussion on this page to my Home Screen, and it shows the Apple icon on an off-white background, with the first 10 letters of the topic question under the icon.
As you say, “functionality unchanged”.

I am as sure as I can be that the FF icon was not originally black. Those are the only icons that are giving trouble. And that is it, basically.

Hi jimikec. Just asking, are you able to open these apps? Are they listed in Settings > General > About > Applications? If so, they are 32-bit apps that cannot run in iOS 11.
Sorry can't help, someone must have done it.

I began this post using iOS 11.1.1 - I‘m finishing it using iOS 11.1.2
The Apple icon for this thread works equally well w/ both. As do the icons that caused the thread.
