Has anyone had a problem (or seen mention of a problem) where a swelling/bulging battery would affect the case of the MacBookPro - for instance, causing the latch not to hook properly unless closed with some pressure?
17" MacBookPro - 2.16 Ghz Core Duo - 1GB RAM,
Mac OS X (10.4.8)
If your battery is bulging then remove it immediaetly and have it replaced via a local reseller or AppleCare. A bulged battery can cause permanent damage to your MBP.
Potentially… without knowing exactly how bulged it was and how much pressure it was applying to your MBP it's hard to say. Not to mention how long it was doing it.
It isn't as bad as some that I have seen. I think it just started last week. The majority of the bulge appears to be on the outside part of the battery.
From that picture I wouldn't have though it weren't enough to permanently deform your MBP but who knows. Unfortunately the only ones what have a good idea though is Apple and they aren't telling.
