Family sharing with two families

My child has a handed down iPhone 5c and we are in a split family. I’ve set up a child account on my family plan but want my ex to be able to track the child’s location as well as me. I’m good with being the account holder for apps and purchases, but how Can I make sure my ex has the ability to use Find my Phone to track our kiddos

iPhone 5c, iOS 10.3.3

An account cannot be part of 2 Family Groups at the same time.

If you need for both of you to be able to track him, one of you can use the Find My Phone App directly on their own device and sign in with the child's Apple ID to track the device.

Find My iPhone on the App Store

Or use Find My Friends and enable location tracking in the Find My Friends App on the child's device.
