MacBook Air will not start after sign in since last update installed

I downloaded the latest updates 2 days ago. Now my MacBook Air will not allow login. When I type in my password, it will show the apple logo, then go back to login page and freeze up or allow to login again, then freeze up. Is there any fix for this or do I have to go to the Apple Store?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)
