Reset SMC not working ?

I am trying to reset the SMC on my MBP mid-2012 but it is not working.

When I try it nothing happens and the MBP does not power on.

Works fine when I just use the power button.

I was able to reset NVRAM fine.

I am using "Shift-Option-control" key while pressing the power button to reset SMC.

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12), Mid-2012, 13", 16gb ram, 500gb. SSD

Hey, alex7375.

I see you're trying to reset the System Management Controller on your MacBook Pro, but it doesn't seem to respond. I'm happy to help.

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac -- Make sure you're only using the built-in keyboard and pressing the Shift-Control-Option keys on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time.

How to reset the SMC on Mac notebooks

First, determine whether the battery is removable. Most older Mac notebooks have removable batteries. Mac notebooks that have nonremovable batteries include MacBook Pro (Early 2009 and later), all models of MacBook Air, MacBook (Late 2009), and MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015 and later). Learn more about Mac notebook batteries.

If the battery is nonremovable:

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Using the built-in keyboard, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds.
If you have a MacBook Pro with Touch ID, the Touch ID button is also the power button.
  3. Release all keys.
  4. Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

Let me know how that goes.

Take care!
