Question: keyboard unsupported device warning since updating to ios 11

Ever since my iPad Pro 9.7 in has been updated to iOS 11 the apple keyboard has become almost unusable. Constant pop up saying this device is unsupported. I have made sure the contacts are clean, I have restarted the device, it will eventually work after a while. When it does finally work it will be slow to respond will give false input from time to time. This never happened in iOS 10.

First, try the troubleshooting steps in Use your Smart Keyboard with iPad Pro :

If your iPad Pro doesn't detect your Smart Keyboard or you see an "Accessory not supported" alert on your iPad Pro, make sure there's no debris or plastic covering on the Smart Connector pins on the keyboard or the Smart Connector on the iPad Pro. Also, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard are in the Type position.
  2. Remove the Smart Keyboard from your iPad Pro.
  3. Restart your iPad Pro.
  4. Reconnect the Smart Keyboard.

If the issue persists, I recommend reinstalling iOS with iTunes. This can resolve possible software issues. When reinstalling iOS, iTunes will completely remove your current software and install a fresh version. While iTunes will try to do this without removing data, it's a good idea to make sure you have a recent backup before trying this step.

I found the problem, it was the keyboard itself. I made an appointment with the genius bar and they determined it was problem keyboard and replaced it.

Article from mac rumors. I never saw this on apples site.
