Why are none of my messages coming through in the correct order?

I’ve just updated my iPhone 7 to ios11, ever since I’ve had a mobile 6 years ago I’ve aleays had it set 10 miniutes fast, is this what’s now causing me the issue with all my messages coming through and then all my replies being next to eachother so it looks like I’m having a conversation with myself? Thanks.
