Adobe software migration problem.

after migration from older 2011 imac to new 2017 imac CS4 and CS5 no longer function. Cant even open as says I need an older java. I downloaded the older java but it wont open or install on high sierra. Ive got 1000s of fireworks files and no way to open. Newer adobe software also cant open fireworks layers and pages files. In fact THREE adobe support specialists told me PNGS cant contain layers or pages. When I insisted that fireworks PNGS do they insisted that it does not and say adobe doesnt support fireworks anyway.

So Ive been left with a software company that provided no solution to their abandonment of fireworks and a computer that can't open my software. what am I supposed to do???

Ive spent hours trying to find an alternative. keeps coming back to installing old java but this mac wont do it.

HELP???

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

appending my post to add the solution (I found on my own but thank your for those of you who also provided this). See step 5. Im including some additional info for anyone who might have had problems if you used the migration assistant to move software from one computer to another (nightmare).

Step 1. Installing your software. If you migrated like I did and are getting error messages unrelated to more than just java you need to deal with those issues first.

1) Delete Your CS software (mine is CS4 and CS5) from your mac.
2) DELETE ALL JAVA. IF you do not delete the java plugin on your mac getting the latest from apple wont help as it wont install if java is already installed and running. Make sure to empty trash after moving java to the trash.

3) reinstall your CS software. You might need to redownload fresh from adobe if you do not have DMG files on your computer or on disks.
4) assuming you have no issues with serial numbers and the install goes well, go to step 5

5) get the proper java: DO NOT GO TO ORACLE for the java version you need. GO TO APPLE.

Download Java for OS X 2017-001

6) Once everything is working. DO NOT UPDATE JAVA EVER AGAIN. Unless prompted to do so and you know the update supports your legacy software. Trust apple. Not oracle.

I apologize for not having the links for fixing issues with migration. Most of which I found on apple support website. All I can tell you is it was a nightmare for more than just my adobe software. I had to delete almost every application Id used the migration tool for and install from my downloads or disks.

Im grateful I can now get the adobe CS software working. I was not so lucky with corel painter. There was no workaround. I had to purchase a completely new version. Not cheap.

One thing I noted with adobe. there IS a version of fireworks that works without the legacy java. Its called Fireworks CS6. However, adobe will not let you buy it. adobe will not let you subscribe to it alone.

Instead this version of fireworks is held hostage in a subscription to ALL applications. Which is very, very expensive if you opt for month to month. Nearly 80 dollars. If you will agree to an annual subscription it works out to 40 bucks a month however if you terminate early -- the termination fee is 50% of the remainder of what they would have made off you with an annual subscription.

I find this terribly upsetting considering they abandoned fireworks without a solution for those of us who relied heavily on this tool over the last decade and provided NO SOLUTION that could open legacy fireworks files intact.

This is intentional to force people to subscribe to more than their needs require.

Ive already replaced photoshop and illustrator with another vendors brilliant, and affordable software. Software which works as well as, if not better, for less than a months fee to adobe. I will now work to convert my fireworks files to formats that I can use with this software

Its a shame. Ive been an adobe user since the late 90s when they purchased macromedia. If not for the way we fireworks folks have been treated and the very expensive, unacceptable, all or nothing subscription option, I would have happily stayed with them on a SINGLE APPLICATION subscription basis. I believe in ala carte. not ala force.

Because of my past love of adobe I hope they will realize what they are losing and remedy this issue by either returning Fireworks to the fold, or at the very least allowing CS6 Fireworks as a single subscription option.

Adobe, your mistake was in assuming that we all used Fireworks in the same way for the same reasons. Adobe XD can't do any of what I could do in Fireworks and neither could illustrator. Fireworks was THE best thing that happened when adobe abandoned Freehand.

Apple JAVA can be download here. Do not use Oracle JAVA, it is for web applications, nothing else.

Download Java for OS X 2017-001

it is Adobes responsibility to either support their legacy software or not, they choose not.

CS4 was designed to run in OS X 10.4, CS5 in OS X 10.5, those are 9 revisions behind what is available now and they were also 32 bit OS's. The current version is Creative Cloud 2018 which is supported under OS 10.13.

the solution is provided. Either keep your legacy systems where they are to support the framework of the 3rd party needs or if you buy newer hardware that was not designed to run older software update the software as well. Your software may or may not work, however the responsibility to keep it compatible is no longer Adobes concern.
