Will the new 29w adapter work with the 1st Generation 12.9 inch iPad Pro
I checked compatibility but it does not show.

I don't believe so, I'm almost certain Apple recommends it for faster charging, if not officially than via their support team.

Apple stopped promoting the 29W charger and Lightning to USB-3/C cable to promote fast charging of the 12.9 inch iPad Pros.
I want to say they stopped promoting it about six months, or so, after the 1st gen iPad Pro made its introduction.
Maybe because of excessive heat issues with the battery? I am not sure on this.
Normally, the 12.9 iPad Pro will charge to 80% in a little over 4 hours.
For 100% it will take between 5 and 5-1/2 hours.
The fast charging only reduced the 100% charge time to between 3-3-1/2 hours.
I felt it wasn’t worth the extra $80 dollars for this convenience.
Plus, I am not sure of the long term impact on the 12.9 iPad Pro battery.
But, as I stated, Apple is no longer promoting this setup as accessories for the 12.9 inch iPad Pro models, any longer!
I wouldn't risk it!
You paid a lot for the 1st gen iPad Pro. I would just keep using the 12W power adapter.
It will for fast and general charging.
Thanks but will it damage the unit or affect the battery?
Thank you. I purchased it for my new iPhone X on order so was curious about the iPad which is why I asked as it is not listed as an accessory for the new iPad Pro.
Appreciate the help.
