Mail crashing and other

Hi,

Since a few weeks ago, after upgrading in el Capitan, my mail started to crash on start. It won't open and will show as not responding so I have to force quit it. Sometimes, when I go to ~/library/containers and delete com.apple.mail and restart the computer, it will work fine. But most of the time even that doesn't work. It randomly does so. So I have no idea whats going on. Sometimes also into system preferences and int my accounts, and it also crashes and have to force quit it. This never happened until lately. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Many thanks!

Alex

Hello. After trying several methods and suggestions from this thread's posts to no avail, and a bit desperate, I noticed that I kept getting this "your iCloud has ran out of space" message in my computer and devices. I tried to access the iCloud account in the preferences box of the mentioned Mac Pro, and it froze there. I found out iCloud was backing up all my desktop and documents in the Mac Book, so I freed up plenty of space there to stop getting that message, and that fixed the email issue too. I guess email tried to backup or something in iCloud, and as it had no space available int would cycle there frozen or similar. Don't know, but this seems like a bug to me.

Many thanks for your help Tesserax and Eric Root.

Cheers!

Try again.

Do a backup, preferably 2 on 2 separate drives.

Quit Mail.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.

Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

If that doesn’t solve it repeat the above using Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent.
