HS 10.13.1 Random Hibernate/ Display Shut Down (MBP 9,1 (mid 2012) 15")

I had no issues prior to updating to OSX10.13 (High Sierra).

Description:

CPU temperature spikes, fans go crazy, system freezes, and then the display immediately turns off. Prior to display turning off, the system becomes unresponsive and the battery percentage drops from 100% to 88% and MagSafe power LED inidcator goes from green to orange (when plugged into the A/C MagSafe power cord). The only way to wake up the system is to push the power button. Slow wake-up, grey screen with status bar…followed by the system booting up and loading all open apps and windows prior to the random shutdown. It seems to happen more often when I’m playing video or surfing Safari at fast pace. It happens more often when I am connected to an external display (using the display port to HDMI adapter). It also does not seem to like it when I use zoom in Safari. But the system is just as likely to randomly crash when the computer is just sitting there (not in use/ no applications open or running)?!? Seems like it might be tied to spotlight activity, or the graphics card energy saver function (dual GPU NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M/ Intel HD Graphics 4000)? This is driving me crazy though…really not good for productivity when your system just goes black, and you have to wake it up for the next couple minutes. I’ve ran hardware diagnostics…everything comes back fine. Battery is operating normally, fans are working correctly. I’ve run first aid on the disk…checked out OK. Etrecheck comes back excellent (nothing in red). Software diagnostics were also good at the genius bar at my local Apple Store. I tried to do a clean reinstall of High Sierra using a USB/ external drive. Same issues were present immediately. I've even completely disabled the computer's sleep function with the terminal command: sudo systemsetup -setcomputersleep Never This has not helped the issue.

What is going on?
