AOL password request.

When using mail, my MAC tells me it cannot connect to AOL and asks for my password. When I enter the password I get the message "Unable to verify account name or password." I am using the correct password because I can log on to AOL directly using that password. And, I am receiving my AOL mail on my MAC. What can I do to fix this annoyance?
