It could cause complications later. Why, since you both ordered the same phone, are you and your brother thinking about taking the other's phone in the first place? Why not just take the one you ordered as yours and your brother take the phone he ordered as his?

Usage not so much, but there are certain situations that require a valid proof of purchase with a matching serial number that would cause issues later on down the line. Specifically if you get an activation lock you'll have problems. It also makes a difference on your carrier's end.
Sorry for sounding a bit silly, just to make things clear, so even if I took his phone (the one he ordered using his Apple ID), it should have my name on it’s related invoice or else it will cause complications later on.

Yep. OP, just wait till you get back. I did much the same thing and it's causing warranty issues, so when the 2nd phone arrives Monday, I'll be taking the first one back to factory reset and setting it back up under the right phone number, which is going to be a pain in the rump.
If I could get a printed invoice from my brother (supposedly I’m using his phone) all would be good right? Nevermind carrier issues in my country it’s not that complicated carrier wise
It would have to match your name, date of purchase and serial numbers. If he prints it out and it matches that info for you you'll be fine!
Did either of you buy AppleCare+ as well? That will be tied to a serial number if so.
Nope, neither of us.
It’s because I’m traveling the day after my brother’s phone reaches whereas mine will arrive after a few days, hence he will get to take it...
Clicked on solved by mistake.
We ordered them sim free. This means whatever phone we get we have the opportunity to use any number on it. So i guess there won’t be an issue. Btw I’m leaving for a long time.
I currently ordered an iPhone X via online Apple store using my Apple ID. My brother also ordered his (same specs), but using his Apple ID. Does it really matter what phone we take when they arrive?
