Question: 1060 GFX graphic card in Mac Pro 2009 4.1

I need to install a 1060 GFX graphic card in my Mac Pro 2009 4.1 after the original died. I have downloaded the new drives from Nvidia which are supposed to work, but as the Mac won't turn on I can't install the drives...what now???

I downloaded the drives according to this link...Using High Sierra here...

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/04/nvidia-releases-beta-gpu-drivers-for-old -mac-pros-and-hackintoshes/

Right now, when I try to boot the Mac all I get is a blank screen... nothing else...

I can find lot of youtube videos of people using this combo, so I know it's possible...

Sad days...

Mac Pro (Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Unless you have a Mac/Mac Flashed graphics card you will not see anything on the screen until the drivers load which is right before the login screen.

Since the drivers have not yet been installed you have a couple of options:

- Install a Mac card and boot up and install the drivers.

- Connect another Mac to your Mac Pro by either USB or FW and boot the Mac Pro in Target disk mode (Depress T when booting) and then boot the other Mac from the boot drive in the Mac Pro. Install the drivers and then boot the Mac Pro normally

-Take the boot drive out of the Mac Pro and connect to another Mac via disk dock or put in external enclosure. Boot the other Mac from the Mac Pro's disk and install drivers. Reinstall drive in Mac Pro

Thanks for the answer. I managed to install the drivers with your third idea, but it still doesn’t work. I see no sign of video output, so I guess the card is rejected by the Mac even before drivers would come into play...hardware issue I guess...

WHen booted from the other Mac, did you select use of the new drivers?

Tis indicates yo need at least Sierra 10.12.4 for your series of cards to work. You say you only have Yosemite.
