trying to unlock old apple ID

My phone broke & I had to order a new one through insurance. When I tried to sign in with my original ID, it locked it & I couldn't use it. so i made a whole new one. now that i have access to a computer, i've been trying to get into it to retrieve all of my old pictures. the recovery process is taking too long so i tried to log in from my new phone. i can't recover it using the credit card info bc it's an old credit card that i no longer have. it's asking for the phone passcode but the current one doesn't work. are they asking for the current passcode to unlock my phone or the passcode that was used to unlock my old phone? or is there a different passcode i set that i'm not remembering?
