I updated my iMac 2011 to High Sierra from Yosemite.

I updated my iMac 2011 to High Sierra. It was installed, then said it needed to restart. Up popped several dialog boxes saying that several extensions had been installed incorrectly. High Sierra said there was an error. I clicked OK and tried to restart as usual from the Apple menu. Now I have a black screen. I tried using recovery mode. It was almost booted when the black screen came back up. Any suggestions?

Hello KauaiKid,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that after installing macOS High Sierra your Mac is showing a black screen. You've done a great job trying to get this resolved. I'm happy to help.

First, try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). Please review the steps and information in the link below:
How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

If the issue persists, test the issue in safe mode. Starting in safe mode allows your Mac to run certain checks, remove caches, and prevent login items from automatically launching. This can isolate possible third party issues. Use the steps and information in the link below for assistance with safe mode:

Please let us know if the behavior continues. Include any other troubleshooting steps you may have tried.

Have a wonderful day!
