Can't import photos from iPhone to iMac

I just updated my iPhone to iOS 11.1 and updated Photos to version 3.0. I connected my iPhone to my iMac, and Photos automatically launched. I could see the seven or eight photos I just took an hour ago, but when I tried to import them, I got this message: "Some items cannot be added to your Photo library because they may be unrecognizable file format or the file may not contain valid data." I tried to use Image Capture, but Image Capture also reported problems with the photos, saying there was an "Image Capture core error."

I then took another photo, after restarting my iPhone. The new photo is in the iPhone, as are the previous ones. The new photo has the same problem with trying to import.

Also, there is no provision on the new Photos to delete pictures from my iPhone after import.

I don't use iCloud.

What should I do?

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 32 GB RAM
