Recently, it seems that my WiFi has a mind of its own and turns on without instruction or permission and I’m tired of it. Anyone else troubled by this?

This is normal in iOS 11:
Use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in Control Center with iOS 11 - Apple Support
If for some reason you want to turn Wi-Fi (or Bluetooth) off completely then do that in Settings, doing it in Control Center now temporarily disconnects you from the network.

Yep. Mine seems to pick up the neighbor's 😑
I fixed mine by resetting my router, then resetting my network settings: Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Network settings. Restart & my WiFi has been back in action 🙃
Gee, I’m so sorry to have raised your ire. I’m 60+ and out of my depth with technology.
A simple suggestion would have helped me and I’m sure others as well. I certainly didn’t mean to jiggle that stick you have stuck up your butt.
You can choose not to read any of the posts, Chuck. I have. My phone still reboots. The WiFi turns on automatically. It *****. Even if control center doesn’t turn it off, it still comes on by itself and it’s not my equipment. I’m venturing it’s Apple’s little way of saying “upgrade that phone” from a 6S to an 8 or X. Better battery life to sling my digital signal even further out into the stupid-sphere. If someone wants my identity, let me know? I’m having a helluva a time with it. Maybe someone else could do much better? Cheers!
Perhaps nothing. Maybe I’m just excusing my own ignorance. I simply want to use my iPhone as I always have without having to relearn all the new ins and outs every time there’s a new update in the iOS. The iPhone used to be intuitive and user friendly and I just yearn for that simplicity of use.
Actually, it's the feature of iOS 11, not a bug. But I also tired of it. U can completely turn it off through the Settings App, however, once you restart your iPhone or reconnect to WiFi, it will will be turned on by default, and you need to turn it off in Settings once again. The same as Bluetooth. 😟
Yes, it is a feature that I love, that I use regularly.
That is untrue about turning it off. If you turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in Settings they stay off until you turn them on. Even if you power cycle the phone. If you connect to Wi-Fi you must turn it on first to do so. I've actually tested and confirmed this.
This is appears to be one of the problems with battery life when I go places with WiFi signals that I don’t connect to. A larger battery drain happens when I go to areas with weak or inconsistent cellular signal levels.
The recent update changed how the system switches work.
Not the first, or the last time a developer has introduced change in their product's features.
This change has been the entire reason this conversation exists.
That change is neither intuitive nor obvious.
I disagree. IMO, it's entirely intuitive to go looking within the iOS settings app for this, where historically almost all feature on/off toggles and switches have been located.
Like many things we learn, I tend to repeat what worked in the past and expect to get the same result. When I was shown the control panel in iOS 9 or 10 I was told it was a convenient shortcut to the same settings as in the settings menu. Maybe that was bad information, but it seemed to work consistently with that interpretation.
Unlike some persons, I don’t enjoy time searching for “features” or “improvements“ for each operating system update. Or the loss of features, like the calculato, I use. I guess that just becomes another item to put on the todo list.
Mine doesn't turn off without me telling it to do so therefore no, I am not troubled by it. That sounds more like a hardware problem with your device.
This is really not acceptable. I want to be the one to control whether or not my WiFi and Bluetooth are on or off, not the os.
This seems like an open invitation to hackers to access my iPhone.
You can turn it on or off through the settings menu. You still have complete control over both WiFi and Bluetooth.
The FaceID data is not sent to any server, it is resident on your phone. Same as TouchID.
Face ID only accepts one face recognition/person per device
