There's no reason it shouldn't work if your face is symmetrical, and you are close enough to the mirror. A mirror will reflect infrared as well as visible light. It will see your face as twice as far as the distance to the mirror (and reversed).

That’s what I thought too I just tried it standing in front of the mirror it works almost every time just have to hold the phone to the side a little bit that’s why I was wondering if this is supposed to work
It will not work with the mirror because that is only a flat mirror

I've tried it several times and it didn't work.
You have to hold the phone to the side of your face not directly in front or below while you’re standing in front of the mirror it works for me
