OS High Sierra problem

I recently upgraded my iMac to High Sierra 10.13.1 and have found a new problem in getting my Garmin watch to sync. When I plug the Forerunner 205 (pre-bluetooth) into my computer to charge and update, it periodically beeps without transferring data, and my wireless mouse and keyboard keep losing and regaining connection. This loops for approximately a minute and it stops looking for the device. The system recognizes the device on the system report page under USB, but that is about it. How can I get my mouse and keyboard to stop dropping while attempting to connect a device via USB?
