After iPhone X transfer, can't set up Activity

I seem to be stuck. This picture says a thousand words:

I transferred from an iPhone 6 to my new iPhone X. For the most part, everything transferred over just fine.


But my Activity app stopped working. When I open the app on my iPhone, it says I need to set up the Activity app on my Watch. When I open up the Activity app on the Watch, it says I need to set up sharing on the iPhone.


I'm feeling a bit "loopy" now.


I poked around the Settings app, the Health app, and the Watch app (on the iPhone) and couldn't seem to find anything relevant.

OK, I have no idea what went wrong, but I managed to fix it by:


  • Unpaired my watch
  • Reset my watch
  • Powered the watch off and back on again
  • (Re)paired the watch with the iPhone
  • Restored the watch from its most recent backup


Once I did that, the activity app (on the iPhone) started working again.
