Login iCloud gives never ending spinner

When I try to login to the iCloud I get a never ending spinner.

This both when the UID/PW are correct/incorrect.

This for all situations

- Preferences > iCloud

- Preferences > Accounts

- iTunes

I get no alerts etc.

This happens after the upgrade to HighSierra.

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), After upgrade to 10.13.1.

Hi Erik,

Thanks for your reply.

I have arranged a Microsoft keyboard and was able to reboot the Mac in Safe mode.

Also rebooted the router and killed the VPN software completely (although it was not running).

However not change in this iCloud. Still not working.

I'm running out of ideas to solve this. Is there not secret "sudo icloud -full reinstall" command?

The creation of a new internet account results in this screen. In which the spinner is not even

spinning!

What happens if you try to log in using another admin user account and the Safe Mode?

Safe Mode - About El Capitan
also Sierra

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Nov 20, 2017 10:27 AM in response to Eric Root

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply! Booting is safe-mode is a little difficult. Because with my 101 wired Apple keyboard, the keyboard is not recognised during boot. Each time at boot, I have to change the USB port several times (on the user login screen), before my keyboard is recognised. I'll have to arrange a Windows keyboard to simulate that. 😟

I have checked connecting several AppIeId accounts. All work fine on other devices (iPhone/iPad/MacBook). When I enter not-existing AppleId/Password no change in the behaviour. I suspect that no connection is made with AppleId server or something!?

I would uninstall Sophos. It tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit unless you work with Windows files.

Nov 21, 2017 12:49 AM in response to Eric Root

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply!

I have cleaned the last bits of Steam and also removed Sophos.

However no change. When I enter a iCloud userid/pw I get endless spinners.

No difference in right/wrong userid and/or password.

Garbage+garbage gives the same spinner. 😁

In the EtreCheck log below I see "10 Apple tasks" launch agents and "34 Apple tasks" launch daemons are not loaded. Could that be the cause? I do not know where to look for these!?

I also see that com.apple.installer.cleanupinstaller.plist is not loaded. Could that be the reason?

Thanks!

Vincent

Hi Erik,

Thanks for your reply.

I only use the VPN for certain secure actions. Not for day-to-day work. In all these cases VPN was not running. I tried it one time with VPN turned on, no luck there.

Do you know how I can reset iCloud on this Mac? Is it possible to re-install it? I do not want to re-install MacOS all over again. (Which sounds like shooting a musquito with a cannon) That will cost me to much time (together with all the applications). I can not restore since then the iCloud problems will return. Really frustrating.

Is it possible to log what is going on, in the kernel?

Kind regards

Vincent

Nov 23, 2017 11:24 PM in response to Eric Root

Hi Erik,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I have 2 Apple-Ids. On my Mac I'm not able to connect to iCloud using any of these.

Both Apple-Ids work great on other devices (phone/pad/macbook etc).

After login question (or even when I press 'create new apple id') the proces halts.

- When trying to login, I get a spinning spinner.

- When trying to create new, I get a Stopped spinner (see image previous message)

I see no difference in reaction from the system when using one of these valid AppleId's or

using a non existing AppleId/PW combination.

Kind regards

Vincent

Nov 26, 2017 3:54 AM in response to Eric Root

Hi Eric,

I tried that also before. No luck. After that I tried a complete reinstall of HighSierra. That

didn't changed anything. As a final result I reformatted the drive and reinstalled MacOs

again. Now it works.

This is a rather drastic action for such a small issue. And I can't really believe that Apple is

unwilling / uncapable to come up with a decent solution for this kind of bugs. Unbelievable. 😠

All together I have spend up to 30 hours trying / restarting / installating etc.

However, many thanks for your support! I really appreciate it! 🙂

Regards

Vincent
