Use MacBook Air as a monitor

Hi!
I would like to use my MacBook Air 13 as a monitor. I want to buy a Raspberry PI 3 and I would like to attach that to my Mac. Is it possible with HDMI adapter?

You could get HDMI with an MacBook Air via a third-party Mini DisplayPort adapter, but that would be HDMI out and thus not useful in this case.

It may be possible to use some kind of VNC software solution over a network, but that would probably lead to unwanted display delay effects.

Another method could perhaps be the use of a composite output from a Raspberry Pi, combined with an appropriate composite to USB converter. Disadvantages: relatively expensive, lower picture quality, and possibly software incompatibilities.

The best way would be to use a monitor or a TV set with an HDMI (in) port.
