Here is probably the best battery you can buy: Replacement Batteries for 15-Inch MacBook Pro 2009-2010. I don't know if you can buy that brand locally (maybe via Amazon), but they do ship internationally. Otherwise google for an Anker battery available in the UK.

Thank you for the info. There is nothing of what you mentioned around here neither on Amazon or EBay. I checked the product to have it delivered to UK and with postage it's about $170 dollars. So not really convenient if anything goes wrong and I would have to return it. There are other compatable and cheaper batteries offered in amazon.uk so I may take a risk and know it and extend my mbp life for a few more years. Not easy to find a replacement to a vintage item according to Apple stores. Grrrr! Any other advice is much appreciated.

I know what you mean, cheap means not good. But the ones that are coming up are about $80 (most expensive on Amazon) and others even $40. So going for more expensive with creditable reviews at this point. Thanks for the advice
With batteries cheaper usually = worse, this forum is filled with tales of woe about cheap batteries. I would bite the bullet and buy the one from OWC.
It is a bit of a risk, but read reviews to see if that helps, and make sure there is a guarantee and return policy. Maybe it will work out just fine.
