OSX 10.9.5 on MacPro shutting down instead of sleep - why?

Since I run OSX 10.9.5 on my MacPro activating the sleep function results in shutting down of the system. Stangely I can start again with the click of a button, but the Mac does a reboot.

I would very much like to have this sleep function again.
